│░░░ What is The GoodBye List Door? ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░1░│
╘═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
The GoodBye List Door is a handy utility that will allow visiting SysOps
to add their BBS to your log off screen. A lot of SysOps like to keep a log
off screen listing other BBS's to call, and normally have to maintain this
list themselves. Well now, with The GoodBye List Door, you can allow these
visiting SysOps to do it on their own! They can even delete, or edit their
listing if they wish, anytime in the future. You can also restrict certain
security levels from using the door at all if you wish. The list that the
door keeps, does not have to be your log off screen, it can be any other
display file as well, like a bulletin, or whatever.

│░░░ Installation ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░3░│
╘═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
Installation is fairly simple. If you are installing the door for the
first time, then create a directory to hold the door, and place the
INSTALL.BAT & FILES.ZIP files in this new directory. Execute INSTALL.BAT
and follow the simple instructions. Two subdirectories will be created in
the directory you run INSTALL from. One named SCREENS which is where all
display files will be placed, and another named DATA which is where all
.DAT files will be placed. All remaining program files will be placed in
the home directory (which will be your current directory).
┌───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ Upgrading 3.a │
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
If you are already running an earlier version of The GoodBye List Door,
or if you are upgrading, then place the INSTALL.BAT & FILES.ZIP files in
your current GoodBye List Door directory, and run the INSTALL program from
there. The only files that will not be overwritten, will by your
configuration files, and your BBS.DAT file. All program files, and display
files, will be replaced with the current versions. Just for safety reasons,
you may wish to back up your GBlist Door directory anyway, -just in case- :)
If you are upgrading from 1.x, then you MUST run the UPGRADE.EXE program
after installing to convert your BBS.DAT file to the new format used by
v2.2 and above.
╒═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╕
│░░░ Setting it Up ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░4░│
╘═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
The entire configuration for the door, is contained in one data file,
GBLIST.DAT (except for security level restrictions, these are kept in a data
file named SECURITY.DAT). When you first install (or upgrade) v2.x, a
default GBLIST.DAT will be created in the DATA subdirectory, located off of
the directory you chose in the installation. All info in your GBLIST.DAT
file can be edited at any time by using the GBSETUP.EXE program. The
GBsetup program contains topic sensitive help throughout the entire program.
Just highlight the option you need help with, and press F1. In some parts of
GBsetup, you may press F2 for a pick list of what you can enter, or press
the space bar to toggle your answer. If you are in one of these parts of the
program, then the "F2 Pick" option will be shown, otherwise, it will be
darkened out.
All areas listed on the Main Menu of the GBsetup program, MUST be filled
in (except for the security level restrictions, these can be left blank)!
Remember to use the "F1 Help" option whenever you need help with something.
In almost every area of the GBsetup program, you can use either your
mouse, or your arrow keys to highlight options, you can either press ENTER
or click your left mouse button to choose options, you can either press ESC
or click your right mouse button to quit the current screen, and you can
press F1 in any area of the program for help with the area of the program
you are currently using.
┌───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ Door Configuration 4.a │
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
In the GB Setup program, you must choose the "Node Setup" option, and
configure each node on your system. Using the node editor is very easy,
and you can edit as many nodes as you have on your system. When saving
each nodes configuration, a text file will be created in your GBList home
directory, named NODE#.CFG, where # will be the node number. Then to run
the door, in your batch file that runs the door, first change to the
GB List directory, and then run GBLIST.EXE with the first parameter being
the name of the node config file for the node bein run. For example, node
1's batch file would look like this,
@ECHO OFF
CD\DOORS\GBLIST
GBLIST.EXE NODE1.CFG
And node 2's would look like this,
@ECHO OFF
CD\DOORS\GBLIST
GBLIST.EXE NODE2.CFG
Replacing the path to the GB List directory with the path you have the
GB List door in. If you use node id variables, then you can use those in
place of the node numbers in the config file name. For example, Wildcat!
SysOps who use the %WCNODEID% variable can use one batch file to run the
door, and it would look like this,
@ECHO OFF
CD\DOORS\GBLIST
GBLIST.EXE NODE%WCNODEID%.CFG
In this example, the %WCNODEID% would be replaced with the proper node
number, assuming you have set the WCNODEID variable into memory already.
Example door configuration file created by the node setup,
Line 1 --> WC3
Line 2 --> D:\WILDCAT\WCWORK\NODE1\DOOR.SYS
Line 3 --> The Last Call BBS!
Line 4 --> Tom
Line 5 --> Smith
Line 6 --> 3
Line 7 --> TRUE
Line 8 --> 4
Line 1 - Your door drop file type, RA for Remote Access compatible
DORINFO.DEF drop files, WC2 for Wildcat! v2.xx CALLINFO.BBS
compatible systems, WC3 for Wildcat! 3.xx & 4.xx, & GAP compatible
DOOR.SYS drop files, PCB for PCBoard PCBOARD.SYS drop files, SF
for SpitFile compatible SFDOORS.DAT drop files, or CL for passing
parameters on the command line (not recommended).
Line 2 - Full path and file name of your door drop file for the node the
config file being edited will be used for.
Line 3 - The name of your BBS as you want it displayed in the door.
Line 4 - SysOps first name.
Line 5 - SysOps last name.
Line 6 - IRQ for the node the config file being edited will be used for.
This setting is very IMPORTANT! If the wrong IRQ is given here,
then the door will appear to be frozen to the caller, and will
only respond to input from the local console!
Line 7 - TRUE if you want an error log to be kept recording door errors, or
FALSE if you do not want an error log kept.
Line 8 - The COM port of the node the config file being edited will be used
on. This is the COM port that the door will send the list to when
a user downloads a list.
All of this info is given to you in the GB Setup program when you choose
the "Node Setup" option from the main menu. Online help is available for
each field by pressing F1 anytime.
╒═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╕
│░░░ Setting up your Batch File ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░5░│
╘═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
For most BBS platforms, a batch file will be used to run this door from
the BBS. In this batch file you must change to The GoodBye List Doors home
directory, and then execute the door with one command line parameter, the
name of your door configuration file for the current node. For example, a
batch file to run the GBlist door that is located in the C:\DOORS\GBLIST
directory, and the batch file is for node 1, and the door config file is
named NODE1.CFG, then the batch file would look like this,
C:
CD\DOORS\GBLIST
GBLIST NODE1.CFG
If your BBS software requires you to change back to the BBS directory,
then add any extra lines after the GBLIST NODE1.CFG command.
Place your batch file in the directory required by your BBS software,
and name it whatever you have to according to what your BBS software
requires.
┌───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ Multi Line Setup 5.a │
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
As of v2.1, The GoodBye List Door now uses file locking routines for
smooth multi-line operation. This means that multiple users can be using
the door at the same time! ;>
To set the door up for multi line use, you will need to create separate
configuration files for each node that you will be using the door on. You
will also need different batch files for each node, in order to tell the
door which door configuration file to read upon startup (unless you will be
using node ID variables). You can use the "Node Setup" option in GB Setup
to create your different config files.
Here is an example for a two line BBS running The GoodBye List Door
from the C:\DOORS\GBLIST directory,
Contents of GBLIST1.BAT
──────────────────────────
@ECHO OFF
C:
CD\DOORS\GBLIST
GBLIST NODE1.CFG
CD\BACK\TO\BBS\IF\NEEDED
Contents of GBLIST2.BAT
──────────────────────────
@ECHO OFF
C:
CD\DOORS\GBLIST
GBLIST NODE2.CFG
CD\BACK\TO\BBS\IF\NEEDED
In this example, both config files, NODE1.CFG & NODE2.CFG reside in the
C:\DOORS\GBLIST directory, and they both contain different IRQ and COM port
information relative to the node number they are used for. Here is an
example of the config files with node 1 being on COM4, IRQ3, and node 2
being on COM1, IRQ4,
Contents of NODE1.CFG

4
Contents of NODE2.CFG
────────────────────────

C:\WILDCAT\WCWORK\NODE2\DOOR.SYS

Remember that if you want the door to use your fossil driver (if using
one), then use 0 for ALL node IRQ numbers.

│░░░ Using The Door ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░6░│
╘═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
To run the door locally from DOS, type GBLIST NODE1.CFG LOCAL, where
NODE1.CFG is the name of a door configuration file. This does NOT refer
to the GBLIST.DAT file, but to the door configuration file that is written
in plain ASCII text, and is used to tell the door what IRQ this BBS line is
on, first and last name of the SysOp, etc. Note that the door does not look
to the IRQ or COM ports given in the config file when running in local mode.
┌───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ [R]edraw Screen 6.a │
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
This option is used to redraw the Main Menu in case it did not display
properly due to line noise, or for some other reason. It simply redraws
the Main Menu.
┌───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ [H]elp Me! 6.b │
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
This option will show the caller the first help file, HELP1.ANS (or
HELP1.ASC for callers with no ANSI terminal), which gives the caller help on
a few options, then allows them to either [S]top, or press [ENTER] for more.
If they press ENTER, then they will be shown the second help file, HELP2.ANS
(or HELP2.ASC), which gives them help on the remaining options not covered
in the first help file.
┌───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ [A]dd Your BBS 6.c │
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
This option will allow the caller to add their BBS to the list. It will
ask them for their BBS name, main number, what BBS software it uses, and the
City and State the BBS is located. The name of the caller who enters the
BBS will automatically be added to the BBS.DAT file along with the info
they put in about their BBS. This is the name that the door matches to the
caller currently online if they choose to edit or kill their entry.
┌───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ [K]ill Your Listing 6.d │
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
This option will only be available if the caller who chooses it has
added a BBS to the list. If they have entered a BBS, then they will be
asked, "Erase "BBS Name" from display file [Y/N]?" If they choose to erase
their BBS, then their entry will be removed from the BBS.DAT file, and the
output file(s) will be rewritten to reflect the change.
If the caller does not have a BBS entered, then they will be told that
there were no entries found under their name.
┌───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ [E]dit Your Listing 6.e │
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
This option will allow the caller to edit their current BBS info, ONLY
if they have a BBS entered already. If not, then they will be told that
there were no entries found under their name. If they do have a BBS entered,
then they will be asked, "Edit "BBS Name" [Y/N]?" If they choose to edit
their entry, then they will be shown a list of their current BBS info,
with the option of pressing the number next to the info they wish to change,
or pressing [Q] to quit. When they press Q, if they changed any info, they
will be asked if they wish to save changes. If so, then the changes are
saved, and the output file(s) are rewritten to reflect the change.
┌───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ [D]ownload List 6.f │
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
This option will allow the caller to download either a single, or a
double line listing containing all BBS's entered (option only available if
it is set to "YES" in configuration). The caller will be shown a sub-menu
where they pick which type of file to download, single or double line.
After they choose which type, the list will be generated from the BBS.DAT
file, then they are told the size of the file, and if they wish to receive
the file. If they wish to receive the file, then it will be sent to them
using DSZ.COM, DSZ.EXE, or GSZ.EXE, whichever you may have. At the time,
Zmodem is the only supported transfer protocol for sending files to the
caller.
┌───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ [P]age SysOp 6.g │
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
If you have the "Allow SysOp Page?" option set to "YES" then callers
can choose this option to page you from within the door. When choosing this
option, the caller is shown a sub-menu containing two options, "[P]age
SysOp" or "[Q]uit to Main Menu." If they do indeed choose to page you, then
your PC speaker will "double-beep" ten times, pausing for 2 seconds in
between "double-beeps." You will be shown on the local screen, the name of
the caller, their current baud rate, and where they are from. When being
paged, press F2 to begin chat.
┌───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ [V]iew List 6.h │
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
Callers can choose this option to view the output file from within the
door. If the caller is calling with an ANSI compatible terminal, then they
will be shown your ANSI version of the output file(s). If they are not
using an ANSI compatible communications terminal, then they will be shown
the ASCII output file (they will only be shown these files if they exist).
╒═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╕
│░░░ About the Download option ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░7░│
╘═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
In order to offer the "Download List" option to your callers, you must
have a copy of one of 3 utilities, DSZ.COM, DSZ.EXE, or GSZ.EXE. All of
these programs are available from Omen Technology Inc. and can probably be
found on a local BBS if you do not already have a copy.
To offer the download list option to your callers, make sure that you
have DSZ.EXE, GSZ.EXE, or DSZ.COM either in your GoodBye List Door home
directory, or somewhere in your path. When this option is called on by a
caller, GBlist will first look for DSZ.COM, DSZ.EXE, & GSZ.EXE in the
current directory, and if one is not found in the current directory, then it
will search your PATH for one of the three. If none are found, then the
caller will be told that this option is currently unavailable. If one is
found, however, then they will be given the opportunity to download either a
single or double line listing.
╒═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╕
│░░░ The Pager Utility ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░8░│
╘═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
I have included a useful utility for turning the page SysOp option on or
off in your configuration wihout having to load GBsetup every time you need
to change the pager status. PAGER.EXE can be run as an event or whatever
your BBS software will allow you to do with it. PAGER accepts one command
line parameter, ON or OFF. For example, if your page SysOp option is turned
off, and you want to turn it on, use, PAGER ON, if it is on, and you want
it turned off, use, PAGER OFF. The pager utility will change only the pager
setting in your GBLIST.DAT file to whatever you specified, ON or OFF.
Typing PAGER alone will show you this usage, and also tell you the
current status of your page SysOp option, if it is ON or OFF.

│░░░ The SysOp Only Menu ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░9░│
╘═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
If you entered your SysOp security level under, "SysOps Security Level"
in GBsetup, then anyone with the security level you specified here will be
allowed to access the SysOp Menu. You can disable the SysOp Menu by putting
the word, NONE under this field in the configuration. The SysOp Menu is
accessed by pressing the number "1" from the Main Menu. It is not shown in
the MAINMENU.ANS or MAINMENU.ASC files, as a measure of safety. It is not
suggested that you add the option to the display file(s), so that it is not
shown to callers, just for your own safety.
╒═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╕
│░░░ The Display Files ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░10░│
╘═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
The display files located in the SCREENS subdirectory, can be edited or
changed to suit your tastes. There are a few things you may want to keep in
mind when creating your own display files.
1) Always add a cursor positioning code at the very end of the menu display
files, to send the cursor to the spot where you ask for user input. For
example, "Enter Choice [_]" In this example, you want the cursor to be
put in the box. Here is a sample ANSI code for positioning the cursor at
screen coordinates 46 across by 20 down. 46H. The first number are
the horizontal coordinates, the second number are the vertical
coordinates, followed by a capital H. Note that anything after the
capital "H" will be put at coordinates 46x20, so be sure to put the code
at the VERY END of your file!
2) In the MAINMENU.ANS & DOWNLOAD.ANS, be sure not to draw on horizontal
lines 21 & 24. These are written to internally by the door, and anything
you have displayed there by your ANSI screen, will be overwritten.
3) The LEAVING.ANS display file is shown to the caller upon exiting the
door, and so is your registration number. The very first three lines in
the upper left corner are used internally by the door, so you may wish
to avoid displaying anything in this area, as it too will be overwritten.
By default, you should have these display files in your SCREENS
sub-directory located off of your home GoodBye List directory,
MAINMENU.ANS ─ ANSI Main Menu.
MAINMENU.ASC ─ ASCII Main Menu displayed to callers with no ANSI.
DOWNLOAD.ANS ─ ANSI Download List Menu.
DOWNLOAD.ASC ─ ASCII Download List Menu.
HELP1.ANS ──── ANSI Help screen. First one shown to caller when H pressed.
HELP1.ASC ──── First ASCII Help screen.
HELP2.ANS ──── Second ANSI Help screen. Displayed after HELP1.ANS.
HELP2.ASC ──── Second ASCII Help screen. Displayed after HELP1.ASC.
LEAVING.ANS ── ANSI display file shown upon exiting the door.
LEAVING.ASC ── ASCII display file shown upon exiting the door.

│░░░ Filtering "Cuss" Words ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░11░│
╘═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╛
GB List can filter out any words that some annoying users might use in
the door. GB List uses the BADWORDS.DAT file for all filters. If this file
exists in your home GB List directory, then it will be used to filter out
any "bad words." This file is included in the distribution archive. You can
edit it to your needs, or delete it if you wish to ignore any bad words
used. The format of the file is as follows,
BADWORD1|GOODWORD1
BADWORD2|GOODWORD2
In these examples, if someone wrote used either of the words BADWORD1 or
BADWORD2, then it would be replaced with GOODWORD1 or GOODWORD2
respectively. Each bad word must be followed by a |, and then the word to
replace the bad word with. Case is not important, as lower case will be
used for all filters, and there should be no spaces on each line.
